Trump promises “serious retaliation” after ISIS killed three Americans in Syria.

Donald Trump threatened “serious retaliation” after an ISIS attack in Syria on Saturday left two U.S. soldiers and one American civilian dead and injured three other servicemembers.

“We mourn the loss of three Great American Patriots in Syria, two soldiers, and one Civilian Interpreter,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Likewise, we pray for the three injured soldiers who, it has just been confirmed, are doing well.”

“This was an ISIS attack against the U.S., and Syria, in a very dangerous part of Syria, that is not fully controlled by them,” he continued. “The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is extremely angry and disturbed by this attack. There will be very serious retaliation. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Two U.S. Army soldiers and a U.S. civilian who was serving as an interpreter were killed after shots were fired at U.S. and Syrian forces on a mission to a town in Syria on Saturday, U.S. military officials said.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a post on X that the soldiers were conducting a “key leader engagement.”

“Their mission was in support of on-going counter-ISIS / counter-terrorism operations in the region,” he said, adding that “this attack is currently under active investigation.”

U.S. Central Command said the attack was a “result of an ambush by a lone ISIS gunman in Syria,” and that the “gunman was engaged and killed.”
