Former President Donald Trump declined a challenge to go vegan claiming that it “messes with your brain” and he couldn’t afford to lose any brain cells.
Former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham wrote in her upcoming book ‘I’ll Take Your Questions Now’ that in 2019 a then-9-year-old vegan activist known as Vegan Ethan offered a challenge to Trump to go vegan for 30 days. If Trump could last the entire month, Vegan Ethan would donate $1 million to veterans.
Grisham wrote that in early 2020 she half-jokingly asked Trump if he would consider taking the challenge to raise money for a worthy cause. But Trump, who loves steaks and cheeseburgers, swiftly declined claiming he could lose brain cells on a vegan diet and he couldn’t afford that, according to an excerpt of Grisham’s book published in Politico.
“No, no. It messes with your body chemistry, your brain,” Trump said of a vegan diet, according to Grisham. “And if I lose even one brain cell, we’re fucked.”
According to Scientific American, “there’s little evidence to suggest that a vegetarian or vegan diet impairs brain function or increases the risk of cognitive decline.”
In fact, “lifelong vegetarians and vegans actually have a lower risk of dementia than meat-eaters,” according to the publication.
