Donald Trump rejected Nikki Haley as potential running mate because of a “complexion problem,” a new book claims.
In the book, The Divider, authors Susan Glasser and Peter Baker describe how Trump openly criticizes the appearance of female politicians.
In one conversation with his then-White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, Trump rejected Haley as a running mate because of a problem with her skin and how she appeared during interviews on TV.
Trump reportedly told Kelly that he wouldn’t pick Haley because of “blotch marks on her cheeks”.
“She’s not good for me. She’s got that complexion problem,” Trump said, adding: “It doesn’t look good.”
Trump also attacked other women according to authors. He would tell visitors that “Speaker Nancy Pelosi was an example of why women should be careful about plastic surgery.”Â
“Trump was very motivated and talked often about appearances and in particular had a habit of making derogatory remarks about women,” Glasser said on CNN.
