Former President Donald Trump said he expects to be arrested next week and called on his supporters to protest.
The announcement comes as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is investigating Trump for felony falsification of business records for the 2016 hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, appears ready to wrap up the investigation.
In a post on his Truth Social app on Saturday Trump claimed he learned through “illegal leaks” that “the far & away leading Republican candidate & former President of the United States of America, will be arrested on Tuesday of next week.”
“Protest, take our nation back!” he added.
If Trump is charged, it would be the first time in U.S. history that a former president is criminally indicted.
Law enforcement agencies in New York along with the FBI and the Secret Service have been preparing for a possible Trump indictment, officials told NBC News.
Security officials are also preparing for potential demonstrations from Trump supporters and counterprotests, according to CNN.
