Donald Trump ordered that his one month old blog “From the Desk of Donald Trump,” be shut down on Tuesday after it various news outlets reported on its low online traffic.
According to the Washington Post, Trump was upset by reports highlighting his blog’s measly readership and was concerned that it could detract from a social media platform he wants to launch later this year. He ordered his team Tuesday to put the blog out of its misery, advisers said.
The blog was launched in early May as an alternative to Twitter after he was banned from all major social media platforms after the January 6. Capitol riot.
The blog was essentially a feed of Trump’s statements, which he had also been emailing out. But, it has failed to live up to the hype and has been receiving low online traffic.
According to the Washington Post, on the last day the blog was live on his website it was shared 1,500 times on Twitter and Facebook— a staggering drop from [Trump’s tweets] last year,” the Post noted.
The drop was not due to a lack of trying. Trump reportedly sent several pleas to his supporters to read his blog. On top of that, he regularly appeared on OANN, Newsmax, and Fox News.
