Former President Donald Trump lashed out at the Supreme Court after it rejected his emergency appeal to block the release of tax returns.
“Why would anybody be surprised that the Supreme Court has ruled against me, they always do!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social app. “It is unprecedented to be handing over Tax Returns, & it creates terrible precedent for future Presidents. Has Joe Biden paid taxes on all of the money he made illegally from Hunter & beyond.”
Trump bucked the tradition of publicly releasing tax returns during his 2016 presidential campaign. He claimed at the time that he was under audit, which still would not have prevented him from releasing his tax returns.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court cleared the way for the Democratic-led House Ways and Means Committee to obtain several years of Trump’s taxes, ending a three-year court battle.
“The Supreme Court has lost its honor, prestige, and standing, & has become nothing more than a political body, with our Country paying the price,” Trump wrote. “They refused to even look at the Election Hoax of 2020. Shame on them!”
