Former President Donald Trump is reportedly lashing out at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in private.
According to the Washington Post, the one-time close allies have grown apart amid rumors that DeSantis will seek the GOP nomination for president in 2024.
Trump has been lashing out at the Florida governor in private telling aides, “I made him.”
Trump has also called DeSantis “ungrateful” for his 2018 endorsement while keeping a close eye on his public appearances and rising poll numbers among Republican voters.
“He’s ungrateful. I knew him from watching Fox, and he’d done a good job about me and other things. He’s an Ivy League baseball player,” Trump said to explain his 2018 endorsement of DeSantis, two people close to the former president told The Post.
“I don’t understand what happened here,” Trump allegedly said. “I don’t understand why he doesn’t appreciate me more.”
DeSantis and Trump are the leading contenders for the 2024 Republican nomination for president, though neither has formally announce they are running.
In the past, Trump has denied that he is feuding with DeSantis, despite reports of a growing rivalry between the two men.
Trump reportedly trash talks DeSantis in private, saying he has a “dull personality” and was angered by his recent stunt to fly planeloads of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, not because he opposed it, but because he is concerned that DeSantis is trying to pull the spotlight away from him.
