Trump spokesperson: “Anyone convicted of a crime should spend time behind bars.”

White Trump supporter busted after pretending to be a Black woman vowing never to vote for Kamala Harris.

A spokesperson for Donald Trump said that anyone convicted of a crime should go to jail.

Earlier this week, the New York Times reported that Jaime A. Davidson, a man whose federal prison sentence was commuted by Donald Trump in 2021, was convicted this spring and sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting his wife.

Davidson had served nearly three decades behind bars when his sentence was commuted by Trump. He was convicted of murder in 1993 on charges of orchestrating a robbery that led to the murder of Wallie Howard Jr., an undercover police officer in upstate New York, according to the Times.

Details of his new conviction on his domestic violence charge was revealed this week by journalist Judd Legum.

Reached for comment, Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told the Times, “President Trump believes anyone convicted of a crime should spend time behind bars.”

But, Trump himself is a convicted felon. The former president was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records in his hush money case in May and is yet to spend a day behind bars.

Sentencing was originally scheduled for July 11, but Justice Juan Merchan pushed back that date after Trump cited the Supreme Court ruling that former presidents have immunity for “official acts,” in requesting that the judge drop the conviction.

Merchan will rule on the request on Sept. 16 just two days before the new sentencing date on Sept. 18.

While Trump awaits the judge’s decision his attorneys tried to move the case to federal court. A federal judge has denied their request and Trump is appealing.
