Donald Trump received cheers at his rally after suggesting he would let Iran “take out” two of the largest cities in California.

Trump held a rally at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center in Grand Island, Nebraska, on Monday for Sen. Pete Ricketts, who is locked in a surprisingly close race for re-election against Independent candidate Dan Osborn in a state Trump won by more than 20 points two years ago.

At the rally, Trump boasted that “we’re kicking Iran’s ass” before suggesting he would be totally fine with Iran retaliating by taking out Los Angeles or San Diego, as his supporters at the rally cheered.

It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe,” Trump said. “They could take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it’s gonna be over with very soon.”

He continued: “It’s essentially almost over with. And they might keep going a little long. You know, they always say, ‘They have a big threshold for pain.’ They need it, let me tell you. But it’s gonna end very soon. And it’ll end one way or the other. And your gas and your gasoline and all the other things.”

Trump is historically unpopular even in red states; despite this, he is hitting the campaign trail in heavily Republican areas, telling voters to pretend he is on the ballot as part of a 32-day blitz of rallies ahead of November 3.

So far, Trump has gone to Texas, Ohio, Alabama, and Oklahoma to campaign for Republican candidates.
