A North Carolina voter told NBC News on Tuesday that he is not supporting Nikki Haley for president because she is a woman.
NBC correspondent Shaquille Brewster spoke with Republican voters in Graham, North Carolina as they cast their ballots on Super Tuesday in the race between Donald Trump and Haley for the GOP nomination for president.
One voter, a man named Emmett Martin, did not hold back when asked why he was supporting Trump over Haley.
“Well, one is not going to be a good president because she doesn’t have no balls to scratch,” Martin said. “She’s just going to scratch her head. All a woman is good for in my book is having babies and taking care of the house. That’s the old thing, but I’m old school.”
Pressed further, Martin admitted on national television that he never even considered voting for Haley “because she’s female.”
“Don’t take me wrong, females know what they’re doing, but they still got to have a little bit of guidance. Trump would be the one to guide her,” he added.
Another Republican voter at a diner in Texas made a similar comment on Tuesday during an interview on Fox & Friends.
“I wouldn’t vote for a woman,” the female voter said, in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “And especially, you know, Nikki Haley, I’m just going to say this, she’s probably menopausal. We don’t need that.”
