Moments after it was reported that Democratic presidential nominee Vice-President Kamala Harris selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, Donald Trump went on the attack.
In a fundraising email sent to his supporters Trump called Walz a dangerous liberal who will “unleash hell on Earth.”
“TIM WALZ WOULD BE THE WORST VP IN HISTORY! Even worse than Dangerously Liberal and Crooked Kamala Harris – HE’S THAT BAD,” Trump said.
“He’ll unleash HELL ON EARTH and open our borders to the worst criminals imaginable,” he continued. “He’ll rubber stamp Kamla’s GREEN NEW SCAM and light TRILLIONS of dollars on fire. But the real killer: he’s already pulled in MILLIONS in dirty cash to buy the White House!”
By picking Walz, 60, a former teacher and Army National Guard veteran, Harris’ campaign is hoping to bolster support in the “blue wall” states of the Midwest.
During his first term as governor, Walz proved he is able to work across the aisle in a divided government. But, after Democrats won unilateral control of the state legislature in the 2022 midterms, Walz signed a series of progressive legislations into law including free lunch for public school students, expanded access to Medicaid, increased protections that allow workers to unionize and expanded medical and paid family leave.
Walz also signed legislation to codify abortion rights into law, increase transgender rights protections and implement new gun safety laws.
