Trump’s 100-day approval rating is the lowest for any president in 80 years.

Donald Trump beat his own record for lowest presidential approval rating at the 100-day mark.

According to the ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll, just 39% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing as president while a majority, 55%, disapprove.

The previous low in approval for a president at or near 100 days in office, in polls dating to 1945, was also held by Trump, that was 42% in 2017.

Trump’s dismal approval rating is due to voters’ worsening view of the economy, the top issue that propelled Trump back to the White House.

72 percent said they think it’s very or somewhat likely that Trump’s economic policies will cause a recession in the short term.

73 percent said the economy is in bad shape, 53% said it’s gotten worse since Trump took office and 41% said their own finances have worsened. 62% said prices are rising.

Meanwhile, 71% said Trump’s tariffs are a negative factor in price inflation. And just 31% are buying Trump’s argument that the economy will emerge with a stronger foundation for the long term.

Overall, 39% approve of Trump’s handling of the economy and 61% disapprove.

Trump also received brutal marks on issues not relating to the economy.

65 percent said Trump’s administration is trying to avoid complying with federal court orders, 64% said he’s going too far in trying to expand presidential powers and 62% said they don’t think his administration respects the rule of law.

The president is also underwater on every other major issue, including immigration (46% approve, 56% disapprove).

This ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll was conducted online via the probability-based Ipsos KnowledgePanel between April 18-22, 2025, in English and Spanish, among a random national sample of 2,464 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
