Donald Trump’s ‘border czar’ Tom Homan complained on Thursday about the safety of ICE agents as they execute the administration’s mass deportation policy.
“The assault on ICE officers are high, the doxing of ICE officers are at an all-time high,” Homan told reporters outside the White House on Thursday. “People always complain, some of you here say, why are they wearing masks? Because they’re trying to protect themselves and their families. They’ve got a dangerous job to do, and they’re being doxxed every day across this country.”
” It won’t be tolerated,” Homan added. “We’ve already shown, you put a hand on an ICE officer, you can be prosecuted to the highest extents of the law. So we’re not playing with any threats against ICE officers. Doxing, we’re gonna take doxing, we’re gonna take action on that also.”
Earlier this month the Trump administration announced assault charges against Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver for her involvement in the chaotic scrum at a ICE detention faculty in New Jersey.
They alleged McIver “used each of her forearms to forcibly strike” ICE officers. But available footage showing the chaotic scene that unfolded after agents moved to arrest Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (D) do not support their claim.
Critics are dismissing the charges as politically motivated and that the move is the administration trying to intimidate members of Congress from performing oversight responsibilities.
