Donald Trump’s claim that staff members at the Manhattan Court were “crying” and apologizing during his arraignment last week is “absolute BS,” according to a report from Yahoo News.
During an interview with Tucker Carlson that aired on Fox News Tuesday night, Trump claimed that Manhattan courthouse employees were crying and telling him “I’m sorry” when they booked him last week during his arraignment.
“When I went to the courthouse, which is also a prison in a sense, they signed me in and I’ll tell you people were crying – people that work there, professionally work there, that have no problems putting in murderers and they see everybody,” Trump told Carlson in the interview. “It’s tough, tough place, and they were crying. They were actually crying. They said “I’m sorry.”‘
But, one law enforcement source familiar with what took place that day told Yahoo News Chief Investigative Correspondent Michael Isikoff that the former president’s claim is “absolute BS.”
“There were zero people crying. There were zero people saying ‘I’m sorry,'” the source said.
In fact, video showed staff refusing to hold a door open for Trump as he entered the Manhattan Criminal Court for his arraignment.
The source said that aside from Secret Service agents and his lawyers, Trump interacted with only a handful of district attorney employees at the courthouse during his arraignment. The source added that the only hiccup during the entire process came when Trump’s fingers were too dry for his fingerprinting, at which point district attorney employees gave him some lotion.
Trump later pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records in an alleged $130,000 hush-money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election.
