Florida’s MAGA Attorney General James Uthmeier threatened to bring charges against a WNBA player after Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham was fouled during a game over the weekend.

On Saturday, Chicago Sky’s DiJonai Carrington received a Flagrant 2 foul for an incident involving Cunningham. Carrington was ejected from the game and later reacted on social media, writing, “white privilege.”

Uthmeier weighed in, threatening legal action against Carrington,

“The WNBA knows better than to play games down here in Florida, because I’ll be charging people with assault,” Uthmeier wrote in his post responding to a video of the play.

“I should probably clarify … assault and battery,” he wrote in a subsequent post.

Cunningham became the latest MAGA darling after she made comments criticizing transgender athletes in women’s sport.

Uthneier also offered his thoughts on the issue in a social media post, writing, “The WNBA continues to view the question of ‘what is a woman?’ as something that is ‘complex and nuanced’ instead of recognizing the simple truth. That’s the problem. What’s next, men assaulting women on the WNBA courts?”

There are currently no transgender athletes playing in the WNBA, and none has ever played in the league.

The only biological males who are trying to play in the WNBA are Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, who has been found liable for making numerous threats and being both physically and verbally abusive toward his ex-wife and their teenage son.  White was ordered to stay away from his ex-wife for 50 years and his son for two years.
