Tuberville struggles to answer questions about Alabama IVF ruling.

Tuberville defends Trump’s cabinet nominees: Trump “will not pick somebody that’s a criminal”

Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R) struggled to explain the recent ruling by the high court in his state that frozen embryos created through in-vitro fertilization are babies.

“Yeah, I was all for it,” Tuberville told reporters at CPAC. “We need to have more kids, we need to have an opportunity to do that, and I thought this was the right thing to do.”

A reporter pointed out that IVF is used to have more children and now IVF services are halted in the state at some hospitals.

Pressed on whether he was concerned about how the ruling would impact families trying to have children Tuberville said, “Well, that’s for another conversation. We need more kids. We need people to have the opportunity to have kids.”

At least three Alabama providers of in vitro fertilization have halted operations since the ruling. The decision left doctors and families wondering how to store, transport, and use embryos in the state without facing legal trouble.

Asked what he would say to women in Alabama who no longer have access to IVF due to the ruling, Tuberville repeated, “we need more kids.”

“Well,” he began, then paused. “That’s a hard one, it really is. Really hard. ‘Cause again, you want people to have that opportunity and that’s what I was telling her. We need more kids.”
