Fox News host Tucker Carlson is said to be “pissed” after Rep. Matt Gaetz tried to rope him into a Department of Justice investigation of alleged sex trafficking of a minor by the Florida congressman.
An individual familiar with the matter told CNN on Wednesday that, “It pissed him off.”
In an interview on Tuesday after the New York Times broke the story, Gaetz referenced a previous allegation of sexual misconduct against Tucker Carlson, saying that he was “not the only person on screen right now who’s been falsely accused of a terrible sex act.”
Gaetz then claims Carlson had met one of the women when they went out to dinner two years ago.
“You and I went to dinner about two years ago,” Gaetz told Carlson. “Your wife was there, and I brought a friend of mine, you’ll remember her.”
The investigation of Gaetz is part of a broader probe into trafficking allegations by one of his political allies, a Florida official named Joel Greenberg. Gaetz has not been charged with a crime.
Gaetz claimed the allegations of sexual misconduct against him are “false.” “They are rooted in an extortion effort against my family for $25 million … in exchange for making this case go away,” he told Axios.
