Twitter has suspended the account that tracked Elon Musk’s private jet for violating the platform’s rules.
A message on the @elonjet account on Wednesday read: “Twitter suspends accounts that violate the Twitter Rules.”
Musk said last month that he would not remove the account because of his “commitment to free speech.”
The account’s suspension comes days after Jack Sweeney, the owner of the ‘elonjet’ Twitter account published a thread saying an anonymous Twitter employee informed him that the account has been shadowbanned.
Sweeney shared screenshots from Ella Irwin the vice president of Twitter’s Trust and Safety, telling her team to apply heavy visibility filtering on the ElonJet account “immediately.”
Sweeney reportedly has several accounts which he uses to track flights of celebrities and billionaires.
Before buying Twitter, Musk reached out to Sweeney and offered him $5,000 to take down the account. Sweeney asked for $50,000 in his counter offer and Musk walked away from the deal. He later claimed it “didn’t feel right to pay to shut this down,” according to Insider.
