Twitter temporarily suspends Donald Trump Jr's account for spreading COVID-19 misinformation.

Donald Trump Jr. is unable to tweet for the next 12 hours after Twitter temporarily suspended his account for spreading misinformation about the coronavirus.

Trump Jr posted a video featuring a group of ‘doctors’ promoting hydroxychloroquine, the drug often touted by Donald Trump and his ilk as a potential cure for coronavirus. The group said studies showing that the drug is not effective in treating coronavirus is “fake science” and they made other false claims, including that masks are unnecessary.

“The Tweet is in violation of our COVID-19 misinformation policy,” a Twitter spokesperson said. “The account will be locked until the account owner removes the Tweet.”

Twitter eventually took down the video but not before it went viral on Monday aided by popular right wing figures, including Donald Trump who retweeted multiple versions of the video to his over 80 million Twitter followers. According to a Twitter spokesperson, this is why no action was taken against Donald Trump’s account—he retweeted the video as opposed to Trump Jr who directly uploaded the misleading video to the platform.

In addition to not being able to tweet for 12 hours, Trump Jr. won’t be able to follow other users or like their posts.
