Two brothers of Republican Rep. Andy Biggs call for his removal from Congress.

Two brothers of Arizona Republican Congressman Rep. Andy Biggs have publicly condemned him for “spreading lies” about the election and called for his removal from office.

William and Daniel Biggs of Tucson wrote a letter to the editor at The Arizona Republic saying that their brother, United States Congressman Andy Biggs is “at least partially to blame” for the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 because he contributed to the environment that led to the violence by being a part of a Republican effort to overturn the results of the election.

“By attempting to cause uncertainty in the election’s outcome, Andy is at least partially to blame for the riot at the Capital on January 6,” the brothers wrote. “Political ambition, peer pressure and fealty to (former President Donald) Trump proved to be too strong a drug to resist.”

“These are violations of his oath of office and erode the trust of the American electorate. For these reasons we call for the timely removal of Congressman Biggs from office.”

The Capitol Hill riots was what led Congressman Biggs’ eldest brother, William, a Democrat, to finally speak up publicly against him. The two brothers are no longer close but if he remains silent, “it just felt like tacit approval of the things that he’s done,” William said.

“Always before on things big and small that he’s done I’ve just kind of kept my mouth shut and gritted my teeth. This just seemed like too big a moment to just sit on the sidelines and not say anything,” he added.

The three term congressman from Arizona was singled out by one of the pro-Trump rally organizers as key to the planning of the “Stop the Steal” protests on Jan. 6 along with Paul Gosar and Mo Brooks.

It is the second time this month that the family of an Arizona Republican congressman called for their sibling to be removed from office.

Earlier this month, three of Rep. Paul Gosar’s siblings reached out to Congress through Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva to ask leaders to remove their brother for helping to incite the mob that stormed the Capitol.
