Two dozen Democrats vote to confirm election denier to lead Veterans Affairs.

Two dozen Senate Democrats voted on Tuesday to confirm Doug Collins as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Collins, 58, previously served in the U.S. House as a Georgia Republican. As an outgoing Republican member of Congress in 2020, he was one of the 126 GOP House members who signed an amicus brief in the dismissed Supreme Court lawsuit that contested the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Several Democrats, including those currently serving in the Senate, slammed the effort at the time and continue to denounce election denialism in the years after the election.

Yet, Collins was confirmed to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs by the Senate on a 77 to 23 vote with 22 Democrats and two independents who caucus with the Democratic party supporting his confirmation.

Among the Democrats who supported Collins is Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.). As a member of the House, Schiff served on the select committee that investigated the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot which happened as a result of Republicans like Collins promoting lies about the 2020 election.
