U.S. sets a single-day record for new coronavirus cases again.

The United States set another single-day record for new coronavirus cases on Tuesday— 58,146, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

This is the second time the country has set a single-day record over 50,000 since reaching that grim milestone last week. Texas and California also set single-day records for new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, 10,028, and 9,018 respectively. Texas now joins Florida and New York as the only states to have recorded more than 10,000 cases in a single day.

The nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci told lawmakers last month that if the country fails to control the spread of the virus, then we’ll get to a point where we see 100,000 cases per day.

“We are now having [40,000+] new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around. Clearly we are not in total control,” Fauci said.

There are over 2.9 million confirmed cases of the virus in the United States and over 130,000 deaths.
