A group of undecided female voters in the battleground state of North Carolina slammed Donald Trump in a CNN focus group, saying the former president belongs ‘under the jail’.
Trump faces 88 criminal charges across four indictments for his alleged mishandling of classified documents after leaving the White House and his role in the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election on the state level in Georgia and federally.
The former president is currently on trial in New York for allegedly falsifying business records to pay hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels in what prosecutors say was a conspiracy to influence the 2016 presidential election.Â
CNN spoke with seven undecided female voters in North Carolina who all agree that Trump should be on trial in New York, according to a clip shared by Mediaite.
They also said Trump should face consequences, including jail time, for violating the gag order put in place by Judge Juan Merchan to protect witnesses, court staff, jurors, and members of their families.
One of the women, Betsy Sprenger, said that if Trump goes to jail he will be placed in solitary confinement because the Secret Service cannot protect him in general population.
“I don’t care! Put him under the jail! We do not shrink from putting other inmates in solitary confinement,” Shante Williams said. “Put him there and shut up. He can talk to the walls. He can talk to the rats. I don’t care.”
Prosecutors say that Trump has violated the gag order more than a dozen times in less than two weeks and is requesting a $1,000 fine for each violation. Judge Merchan is expected to rule soon and could hold Trump in contempt or issue the fine.
“This person has something more powerful than money,” said Trish Saemann. “He has an audience. He has a rabid audience that is very willing to do whatever they want. So then, does even a thousand dollars per violation or you know, going to jail for any period of time – is that enough, given his influence?”
Two of the seven women previously voted for Trump. All seven women say if he’s convicted in the hush money case they would not even consider voting for him.
