Undocumented migrant who allegedly wrote a note threatening to assassinate Trump is the victim of a setup, investigators say.

The Mexican immigrant who allegedly wrote a note threatening to assassinate Donald Trump is the victim of a setup, investigators believe.

On Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem alleged that Ramon Morales Reyes, 54, wrote the note plotting to kill Trump. The note reads, “We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans. We have done more for this country than you white people—you have been deporting my family and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get what he has coming to him.”

“I will self deport myself back to Mexico but not before I use my 30 yard 6 to shoot your precious president in the head,” possibly at a rally, the handwritten note adds.

But, a new report from CNN revealed that investigators now believe that Reyes did not write that note, which was sent to ICE office and other law enforcement agencies, and it was not a credible threat.

They believe Reyes was set up.

Sources told CNN the handwritten note is related to a robbery and assault case in which Reyes was the victim. The notes were being sent by someone pretending to be Reyes so he could get deported before the case goes to trial.

Investigators told CNN that Reyes’ handwriting did not match that of the threatening letter and jail calls from the person they believe to be behind the letters revealed that the person asked about specific addresses, one of which received the letter.

Milwaukee Police Department told CNN it is “investigating an identity theft and victim intimidation incident related to this incident.”

A senior Homeland Security official said, “The investigation into the threat is ongoing. Over the course of the investigation, this individual was determined to be in the country illegally and that he had a criminal record. He will remain in custody.”

According to officials, Reyes had attempted to enter the US illegally nine times between 1998 and 2005, and had been arrested for a felony hit and run.
