A possible second measles related death has been recorded in the U.S. this year.
According to the New Mexico health department, an adult tested positive for measles after their death on Thursday. The person who died was unvaccinated and did not seek medical care.
The department added that the official cause of death is still under investigation.
The deceased individual was from Lea County which borders western Texas, the Associated Press reports.
Officials in West Texas have identified 159 measles cases and a school-age child died last week after, which was the country’s first death from measles in a decade.
Health officials suspect there may be a connection between the Texas and New Mexico cases, but not link has been confirmed yet..
New Mexico has reported a total of 10 measles cases so far this year, according to NMDOH. Of the 10, seven were unvaccinated and the vaccination status of the other three is unknown.
Six of the cases are in adults and the rest are in children younger than 17.
