A woman in Utah is regretting her decision to not allow her family to get vaccinated after her “perfectly healthy” husband is left fighting for his life in the intensive care unit.
Mindy Greene said her husband told her months ago to decide whether or not their family should get vaccinated.
She wrestled with the decision, but ultimately decided against vaccination and prayed that her family would be alright.
“We did not get the vaccine,” she wrote on Facebook, the New York Times reported. “I read all kinds of things about the vaccine and it scared me. So I made the decision and prayed about it and got the impression that we would be ok.”
She felt comfortable with her decision even after two of their four children came home from summer camp with the virus. “Even four or five days into it, I texted one of my friends. I’m like, ‘This ain’t bad,'” Greene told KSL-TV.
But everything changed when her 42-year-old husband Russell Greene caught the virus. Within four days he was admitted to the ICU.
Greene has six chest tubes, his lungs have holes where they’ve collapsed, and just Wednesday, he had another major surgery. A surgery, she said, doctors informed her afterward, they were surprised he survived, KSL reported.
“I will always regret that I listened to the misinformation being put out there,” Greene told The New York Times. “They’re creating fear.”
If she had to do it all over again, Greene said she would get her family vaccinated, and she hopes others will look to credible sources, like trusted doctors and healthcare workers.
“Educate yourself with facts and then make the decision. Include the Lord in that process and he will help guide you,” she said. “But you cannot make an educated decision on fear and lies.”
Greene’s doctors believe he will survive, but it will be a very long road to recovery. A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family cover medical bills.
