Uvalde school police chief who delayed tactical response to shooting is not cooperating with state investigation, officials say.

Uvalde school police chief is not cooperating with state investigation, officials say.

The Uvalde police chief who is criticized for the decision to not confront the shooter at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas last week, is not cooperating with an investigation by Texas law enforcement.

At a press conference on Friday, the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety said Pete Arredondo, the chief of the Uvalde Independent School District police force made the decision to not have cops confront the gunman sooner as he barricaded himself in a classroom and killed 19 children and two teachers, according to Insider.

“Uvalde PD and Uvalde CISD are still cooperating; however, the chief of police for CISD has yet to respond to the Rangers’ request for a follow-up interview that was made a couple of days ago,” a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

A DPS spokesperson clarified that Arredondo had not responded to a request for comment in two days. The spokesperson also said “plenty” of personnel from both the Uvalde Police Department and the school district “have done interviews and given statements to investigators.”

Chief Arredondo did not believe the situation at the Robb Elementary last week involved an active shooter, according to DPS, even though children inside called 911 begging for help. Instead, officers waited in the hallway outside the classroom for 80 mins and focused on evacuating students from other classrooms and securing the perimeter.
