Vice-President Kamala Harris slammed Donald Trump for bragging about his role in the Supreme Court’s decision to end abortion rights.
Trump appointed three out of the six conservative justices on the nine person court that voted along ideological lines to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the right to an abortion.
“[For] 54 years, they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it,” Trump said at a Fox News town hall earlier this month. “And I’m proud to have done it.”
During a speech in Big Bend, Wisconsin this week to start a nationwide “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” Tour, Harris tore into the former president for taking away a woman’s right to choose and then bragging about it.
“Today, an untold number of women are silently suffering…..as we face this crisis, as we are clear-eyed about the harm, let us also understand who is responsible, shall we? The former president hand-picked three Supreme Court Justices because he intended for them to overturn Roe. He intended for them to take your freedoms. And it is a decision he brags about,” Harris said, according to a clip posted by Mediaite.
“A couple of weeks ago, he said that, for years, quote, “They were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated.” But he said, quote, “I did it. And I’m proud to have done it,” Harris continued. “Proud that women across our nation are suffering? Proud that women have been robbed of a fundamental freedom? Proud that doctors could be thrown in prison for caring for their patients? That young women today have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers?”
“How dare he,” the VP added.
