Waltz accused journalist he invited into war plan Signal chat of “making up lies”

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz attacked the Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, who was mistakenly added to a group chat with Waltz and other officials while they discussed plans for a military strike.

Appearing with Trump at the White House on Tuesday, Waltz, who sent the Signal request to include Goldberg in the chat, said he “never met” Goldberg and accused the journalist of “making up lies.”

“There’s a lot of journalists in this city who have made big names for themselves, making up lies about this president, whether it’s the Russia hoax or making up lies about Gold Star families,” Waltz said. “And this one in particular, I’ve never met, don’t know, never communicated with, and we are and we are looking into and reviewing how the heck he got into this room.”

Again, Waltz invited Goldberg to join the chat with other officials including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Goldberg reported that Trump administration officials accidentally added him to a group text chat about strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.

The National Security Council earlier this week confirmed the authenticity of the messages.

According to Politico, several top officials in the Trump White House want Waltz gone, but the president is standing by him.

“Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man,” Trump told NBC News’ Garrett Haake.
