Warnock slams Trump for selling bibles.

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) a reverend at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia slammed Donald Trump for hawking $60 Bibles, though he said he’s not surprised by the move.

“The Bible does not need Donald Trump’s endorsement, and Jesus in the very last week of his life chased the money changers out of the temple, those who would take sacred things and use them as cheap relics to be sold in the marketplace,” Warnock said Sunday during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union.

“The sad thing is that none of us are surprised by this,” Warnock continued. “This is what we expect from the former president. If he’s not selling us steaks he’s selling us a school whose degree is not worth the paper it is written on. If he’s not selling us a school he’s selling us sneakers and now he’s trying to sell us scriptures. At the end of the day, I think he’s trying to sell the American people a bill of goods.”

Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, posted a video to his Truth Social account last week urging his supporters to get their copy of the ‘God Bless the USA’ Bible inspired by country music star Lee Greenwood, whose song “God Bless the U.S.A.” is ever present at Trump rallies.

He also posted a link directing his supporters to a website where they can purchase the book for $59.99. The website also describes the book as “the only Bible endorsed by President Trump!” adding that it is “Easy-to-read” with “large print” and a “slim design.”

Warnock told CNN on Sunday that it is “risky business” for someone like Trump who lies frequently.

“The folks who buy those Bibles might actually open them up, where it says things like ‘Thou shalt not lie’ or ‘shalt not bear false witness.’ Where it warns about wolves dressed up in sheep’s clothing,” Warnock said. “I think he ought to be careful. This is risky business for somebody like Donald Trump.”
