The House voted Friday to pass legislation to prevent a government shutdown hours before a midnight deadline to extend funding.

The package would fund the government at current levels through March 14, extend the farm bill by one year and appropriate billions of dollars in disaster aid and assistance for farmers. It did not iinclude provision to eliminate or suspend the debt ceiling as Donald Trump demanded.

The measure requires two-thirds majority to pass because House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) fast-tracked the legislation by bypassing the House Rules Committee.

It passed on a 366-34 votes with more Democrats supporting the legislation than Republicans.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where it is expected to pass before heading to President Joe Biden’s desk for his signature.

The vote capped a chaotic week that saw President-elect Donald Trump and his ally Elon Musk, killing the original bipartisan deal that Johnson reached with Democrats.

Johnson tried to pass a smaller deal on Thursday with Trump’s demand to raise the debt ceiling, but that failed with 38 Republicans joining Democrats to oppose the bill.
