The Republican governor of West Virginia, Jim Justice told residents on Tuesday to become a part of the solution to the COVID crisis by getting vaccinated against the virus.
“If you’re out there in West Virginia, and you’re not vaccinated today, what’s the downside?” Justice said during a press conference, according to the Hill. “If all of us were vaccinated, do you not believe that less people would die? If you’re not vaccinated, you’re part of the problem rather than part of the solution,” he added.
77 percent of West Virginians over the age of 65 and 53.7 percent of those over the age of 12 are fully vaccinated, according to the state’s COVID-19 data. 56 percent of West Virginians have received one dose.
This as the highly contagious delta variant continues to spread across the U.S and republican led states and counties falls behind on vaccination rates.
According to a recent ABC/Washington Post poll, 30 percent of Americans say they haven’t been vaccinated. Of that 30 percent, 20% say they will not take the COVID vaccine.
Thirty-eight percent of Republicans say they will never get the jab.
