White House posts photo of Trump dressed as the pope.

The White House posted an AI-generated image of Donald Trump dressed as the Pope on Friday.

The picture comes after Trump jokingly told reporters earlier this week that he’d like to be the next leader of the Roman Catholic Church following Pope Francis’ death.

“That would be my number one choice,” he said at the time.

The image, which Trump originally posted on his Truth Social account, shows Trump wearing a pope’s hat and a necklace with a crucifix hanging around his neck.

The image comes as cardinals are set to begin conclave on May 7 to elect the next pope.

The post of the AI-generated image drew widespread condemnation on social media.

Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele, an outspoken Trump critic, criticized the post and said it “affirms how unserious and incapable [Trump] is.”
