Who is Rep. Jasmine Crockett?
Rep. Jasmine Crockett is a first term Democratic congresswoman from Texas who was elected in November 2022. She is already making waves in Congress due to her work and fiery clapbacks. Just months after Crockett was elected she delivered a passionate rebuke of House Republicans’ ill-fated effort to impeach President Joe Biden while they turned a blind eye to Donald Trump keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago club “in the sh*tter.”
But it was her clapback to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after the Republican came for her eyelashes that landed her in the national spotlight.

It was the alliteration heard around the nation on May 16. It all began during a House Oversight Committee meeting when Greene asked a question unrelated to what the meeting was about. This prompted Crockett to ask Greene if she had any idea what the committee was meeting about.
“I don’t think you know what you’re here for. I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,” Greene responded.
The Georgia congresswoman refused to apologize for the remark and Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) did not enforce decorum rules. This led Crockett to ask a hypothetical which was a clear shot at Greene: “I’m just curious, just to better understand your ruling. If someone on this committee then starts talking about someone’s bleach blonde bad built butch body, that would be engaging in personalities, correct?”
The alliteration quickly went viral and even spawned remixes. Crockett has capitalized on the attention by moving to trademark the phrase and has launched “Crockett clapback” merch to raise money for Democrats.
