Wife of Texas Republican senate candidate files for divorce on ‘biblical grounds’

Texas State Sen. Angela Paxton (R) announced on Thursday that she has filed for divorce from her husband of 38 years, Texas Attorney General and Senate candidate Ken Paxton (R) on “biblical grounds.”

“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds. I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage,” Angela Paxton wrote on X. “I move forward with complete confidence that God is always working everything together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose.”

According to a Angela Paxton’s divorce filing obtained by local Texas outlet KUT News, she accused her husband of adultery and revealed that they had been living apart since 2024.

“The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation,” the filing reads, according to the report.

Paxton was accused by four former staff members of misusing his office to protect Austin real estate developer and campaign donor Nate Paul who in turn was helping Paxton to hide an extramarital affair.

Paxton was impeached by the Texas House of Representatives in May 2023 following accusations of abuse of public trust, unfitness for office, and constitutional bribery, among other charges.

He was later acquitted but the Texas state Senate.

In April, Paxton announced he is challenging incumbent Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn because he was not loyal to Donald Trump.

In a statement on Thursday Paxton blamed ‘political attacks and public scrutiny for his divorce.’

“After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” he wrote. “I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren. I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time.”
