A woman who was in Alaska for Donald Trump’s rally last month avoided a ticket during a traffic stop when she showed officers a “white privilege card” instead of a driver’s license, according to NBC News.
Mimi Israelah wrote in a now-deleted Facebook post that she was pulled over for weaving in the early morning hours of July 9 as she was driving to an Anchorage pizzeria after arriving from California for Trump’s rally.
Israelah wrote that she could not find her driver’s license when the officers asked so she gave them her ‘white privilege card’ instead.
“When I saw my White Privilege card, I gave to him if it’s ok,” she wrote. “He laughed and called his partner. It’s their first time to see a White Privileged (sic) card.”
The card Israelah handed to them read “White Privilege Card Trumps Everything” at the top. She was not cited during the stop and was allowed to go.
The two Anchorage police officers involved in the incident reportedly violated department policy during the traffic stop. However, it’s not clear what policy was violated or what disciplinary actions the two officers faced because police will not say, according to Anchorage Daily News.
An investigation looking into the incident lasted 11 days. Police would not provide any additional information about the internal investigation.
“The investigation regarding the incident is completed and is a part of confidential personnel files that will not be released publicly,” Police spokesperson Sunny Guerin said
Both officers are currently employed by the department.
Deputy Chief Sean Case said some people who saw Israelah’s post about the incident criticized the officers’ actions. “We recognize that,” he said.
