Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to visit Washington DC on Wednesday.
Punchbowl News first reported on the possible visit, citing several sources familiar with the plans.
Zelensky will reportedly meet with President Joe Biden, and will address a joint session of Congress.
Though the details of the trip are not yet finalized, Capitol Police are already beefing up security at the Capitol. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also sent a letter to colleagues on Tuesday asking “all Members to be physically present at our session Wednesday night” adding that they “please be present for a very special focus on Democracy Wednesday night,” according to Axios.
The possible trip will be the first time Zelensky left Ukraine since Russia invaded earlier this year.
Zelensky’s visit coincides with Congress debating President Biden’s $1.7 trillion spending bill which includes $45 billion in new emergency aid for Ukraine.
