Trump says 'you can be the most horrible human being in the world' because ratings is the only thing that matters is 'ratings'

In a new recording, Donald Trump says he believes his “horrible” behavior is justified because he brings ratings and that is the “only thing that matters.”

Ramin Setoodeh, Variety editor and author of Trump’s post-presidency biography titled, Apprentice in Wonderland, played the recording on Tuesday’s episode of Deadline: White House on MSNBC.

In the recording the former president said that “it doesn’t matter” if a person is the “most horrible human being” because all that matters are ratings.

“If I went back to NBC right now to do something, they would do anything I wanted to do, showbiz-wise, I’m talking about. Doing a show, anything I wanted to do right now, 100%. Because one thing I know about that business, and I learned more about that business than anybody else could learn in a short period of time. It’s about one thing: ratings. If you have ratings, you can be the meanest, most horrible human being in the world. There’s only one thing that matters: ratings,” Trump said, accordimg to a clip highlighted by Mediaite.

“You can be nice, or you can be mean. You can be evil. You can be horrible. You can be crude or elegant,” he continued. “There’s only one thing that matters and that’s ratings. If you don’t have ratings, it doesn’t matter.”

Trump, the former network television star of ‘The Apprentice’ has repeatedly bragged about his ratings. In fact, he bragged about the ratings of his daily press briefings during the coronavirus pandemic where he made several inaccurate claims about the virus and undercut warnings by public officials.
