After meeting with the former president at his Mar-a-Lago club over the weekend, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine is to “not give a single penny” to support the Ukrainian effort opposing the invading Russian army.
Orbán, who has a close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, told Hungarian news outlet M1 that Trump has detailed plans on how to end the war, and that these alleged plans “coincide with Hungary’s interests.”
Trump “will not give a single penny to the Ukrainian-Russian war, therefore the war will end” Orbán said, according to Reuters.
“If the Americans do not give money and weapons, and also the Europeans, then this war will be over,” Orbán said, adding: “If the Americans do not give money the Europeans are unable to finance this war on their own, and then the war will end.”
Trump has repeatedly claim he would end the war between Russia and Ukraine in 24 hours, though he never said how he plans to achieve this.
He has also criticized efforts to give more aid to Ukraine and MAGA members of Congress have blocked attempts to provide Ukraine with additional assistance. Earlier this year, pro-Trump members of Congress blocked a $95 billion aid package which includes $60 billion in aid to Ukraine.
Trump has nothing but praises for the Hungarian strongman after the Mar-a-Lago meeting, calling him a “Great Leader, respected all over the World,” in a post on his Truth Social app.
“There’s nobody that’s better, smarter or a better leader than Viktor Orbán,” Trump said, adding, “He’s the boss and he’s a great leader, fantastic leader. In Europe and around the world, they respect him.”
Biden, meanwhile, slammed Trump for meeting with Orbán.
“You know who he’s meeting with today down at Mar-a-Lago?” he said at a campaign event in Pennsylvania. “Orbán of Hungary, who stated flatly he doesn’t think democracy works, he’s looking for dictatorship.”
