Donald Trump attorney Alina Habba claims President Joe Biden will allow millions of illegal immigrants to enter the country to help him win re-election in November.
In a recent interview with Newsmax Habba claims Biden will let 10 million “illegals” into the country to help him win re-election because he is unable to defeat Donald Trump unless he cheats.
“The whole thing with our borders, the whole thing with them bringing these people in so that they could vote in November because they need 10 million more votes to beat Trump,” Habba said. “They need more than that. Frankly, this is all by design, and it’s not about keeping us safe. New Yorkers are not safe. America is not safe.”
“This is the new way to cheat, lie and steal for 2024,” Habba added. “And that’s the truth. And it’s frightening for me. It’s 100% frightening, and it’s what keeps us all motivated to keep fighting.”
Habba’s claim is not new, several Republicans including Trump, have suggested that Democrats are willingly allowing migrants to enter the country illegally in order to register them to vote in the 2024 election.
It is a narrative that resonates with Trump’s MAGA base who believe the border is wide open and voting is unsecure.
However, like most of Trump’s claims, this one is also not grounded in facts.
Federal law requires anyone who is registering to vote in the U.S. to attest under penalty of perjury that they are a U.S. citizen. Lying could result in steep penalties such as fines, imprisonment and deportation.
Furthermore, federal law requires states to regularly maintain their voter rolls and remove anyone ineligible, a process that identifies immigrants living in the country illegally, the Associated Press reported.
