A group of Trump supporters who showed up at JD Vance’s rally in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday wearing ‘Auto workers for Trump’ shirts admitted that they aren’t autoworkers.
More than a dozen people attended the event wearing the shirts, but six later told The Detroit News that they were not from the automobile industry.
‘There are more than a dozen people wearing “auto workers for Trump” shirts at this JD Vance event in Detroit this afternoon,” Detroit News reporter Craig Mauger wrote on X. “Four of them have acknowledged they are not auto workers.”
“Talked to two more individuals who were wearing the shirts after the event ended,’ Mauger added. “They were also not auto workers.”
Brian Pannebecker, who started the pro-Trump group after the United Auto Workers (UAW) union endorsed the Democratic ticket, told Newsweek in a statement that he gave attendees the shirts to wear at the rally after active auto workers backed out due to work.
Pannebecker explained that some union members who were unable to attend “asked if their spouse could have a seat in their place.”
“Of course, I said yes, because these families deserve the opportunity to show their support for the candidates who understand what needs to be done to save Detroit’s auto motive industry and our economy,” he said.
