A defiant Steve Bannon threatened to make the charges against him “the misdemeanor from hell” for the Biden administration and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as he left court on Monday after being indicted for defying a congressional subpoena.
Bannon, Donald Trump’s former advisor asserted that the Biden administration had taken on the “wrong guy this time.”
“I’m telling you right now, this is going to be the misdemeanor from hell for Merrick Garland, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden,” Bannon told reporters. “I’m never going to back down. We’re going to go on offense.”
“They took on the wrong guy this time; they took on the wrong guys,” he added.
A federal grand jury indictment Bannon on Friday on two charges of contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
If convicted Bannon faces up to one year in jail for each charge as well as a fine of $100 to $100,000.
Bannon surrendered to federal authorities on Monday and was released without bond. He is required to turn in his passport and submit to weekly check-ins with the court.
Bannon will be arraigned at a Thursday hearing, where he is expected to plead not guilty.
