Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke snaps at a heckler on Wednesday who laughed as he was speaking about the Uvalde mass shooting at a town hall in Mineral Wells, Texas.
O’Rourke, who has pushed for stricter gun laws, was discussing some details of the shooting at Robb Elementary school that left 19 children and two teachers dead when a supporter of Gov. Greg Abbott (R) laughed.
“It may be funny to you, motherf—er, but it’s not funny to me,” O’Rourke told the heckler, eliciting applause from his supporters at the event.
After the event, O’Rourke tweeted that there was “nothing more serious to me than getting justice for the families in Uvalde and stopping this from ever happening again.”
O’Rourke will face Abbott in November. The day after the massacre, O’Rourke interrupted Abbott’s press conference to criticize him and demand action.
“You are doing nothing. You are offering up nothing. You said this was not predictable. This was totally predictable when you choose not to do anything,” O’Rourke told him. “This is on you. Until you choose to do something different, this will continue to happen. Somebody needs to stand up for the children of this state or they will continue to be killed just like they were killed in Uvalde yesterday.”
O’Rourke was eventually escorted out of the press conference by police.
