President Joe Biden’s favorability rating increased slightly, while former President Donald Trump is even more unpopular now after leaving the White House, according to a new NBC News poll released on Sunday.
The poll finds that President Biden’s popularity has gone up slightly compared to August. This month, 45 percent of registered voters approved of President Biden’s overall job performance. That’s up 3 points from last month. It is Biden’s highest approval rating in the poll since last October.
However, the president is still underwater as 52 percent disapprove of the job he is doing though that is down down 3 points compared to last month.
While Biden’s approval rating appears to be heading in the right direction, Trump’s is the opposite. The poll finds that 34 percent of registered voters have a positive view of the former president, while 54 percent view him negatively.
Trump’s favorability is down two points from last month where 36 percent had a favorable view of him. Trump’s favorability rating was at its lowest in April 2021, when his rating fell to 32 percent in the same NBC poll.
This comes as Trump is the subject of at least four major investigations into wrongdoing relating to his handling of classified documents, the plan to introduce fake electors in the 2020 election, the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and his finances.
In the NBC News poll, 56 percent of registered voters said the investigations into Trump’s alleged wrongdoing should continue. That includes 92% of Democrats, 56% of independents, and 19% of Republicans. 42 percent say the investigations should stop.
The NBC News poll was conducted Sept. 9-13 of 1,000 registered voters and it has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points
