Boebert finishes 3rd in straw poll after Trump endorsement in new district.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) continues to struggle in the Republican primary in her new district even with a Donald Trump endorsement.

Boebert announced in December that she will be leaving Colorado’s 3rd congressional district to run for re-election in the 4th district. Colorado’s 4th district is more heavily Republican and the winner of the GOP primary is virtually assured to win the general election in November.

However, things haven’t been smooth sailing for the scandal-plagued congresswoman in her new district. Boebert has received a chilly reception from potential voters and her opponents have labeled her a carpetbagger.

Despite this, Trump endorsed Boebert in a post on his Truth Social platform. He called her a “proven Conservative and Effective Leader who delivers for Colorado, and our America First agenda.”

But even a Trump endorsement might not be enough to save Boebert in her new district.

A straw poll conducted at a primary debate in Holyoke, Colorado the day after Trump’s endorsement shows Boebert finishing in third with 30 votes, around 16%, of the nearly 200 Republicans who participated in the non-scientific survey.

She trails former state senator and current Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg who received 55 votes and veteran state lawmaker Ted Harvey who earned 38 votes, according to the Journal-Advocate.

During the first GOP primary debate a straw poll of attendees had Boebert finishing in fifth place with Sonnenberg as the winner.

“I voted for Donald Trump in 2016, 2020, and will vote for him again in 2024. I hope he wins,” Sonnenberg told the Journal-Advocate. “But, respectfully, the only endorsement I care about in this race will come from the voters of this district, who I’ve served honorably for two decades. They’re going to make up their own minds and I am confident I’ll earn their endorsement over someone who just moved to our district so she could stay in Washington, D.C.”

The Colorado Republican primary will take place on June 25.
