Tyler Boebert, the son of Colorado congresswoman Rep. Lauren Boebert (R) is reportedly having a hard time trying to find an attorney in his price range.
Tyler, 19, appeared in court on Thursday where he revealed to the judge that finding an attorney to represent him in his felony case has been tough and he might have to apply for a public defender, according to Westword.
“We are working to hire an attorney, but it’s just been kind of hard with the prices,” Tyler told 9th Judicial District Judge John F. Neiley. “Worst case scenario, if we can’t get something figured out with the lawyer then we’re going to apply for a public defender or whatever works best for me.”
Judge Neiley advised Tyler that it was “a good idea” to apply for a public defender while he continues to search for a lawyer in his price range.
Tyler faces 14 charges in connection to a string of car break-ins and property thefts he allegedly committed in Boebert’s congressional district earlier this year.
He was arrested with his three accomplices after they were caught on surveillance video using stolen credit cards from their victims’ parked cars at multiple locations in Rifle, Colorado on February 19 and 20, according to the arrest affidavit.
The charges he faces include felony counts for identity theft and misdemeanor charges for criminal trespassing. Tyler was initially facing 22 charges but 8 were dropped.
Among his victims was a three-year-old and a woman with a brain tumor who told police she had just $75 “left to her name.”
