California sheriff who refused to enforce COVID restrictions tests positive for COVID.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones tests positive for coronavirus after refusing to enforce California’s COVID restrictions.

Sheriff Jones tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday after developing symptoms late last week when he was exposed to an employee that later tested positive for the virus.

“Sheriff Jones’ symptoms started last Friday and were mild, including a fever, congestion, light-headedness, and a headache,” the sheriff’s office said in a release. “He started feeling better Sunday morning, and today has almost no remaining symptoms.”

The sheriff is one of “dozens” Sacramento Sheriff’s Office employees to test positive for coronavirus.

Jones released a statement back in June saying his office “will not be determining — including entering any home or business — compliance with, or enforcing compliance of, any health or emergency orders related to curfews, staying at home, Thanksgiving or other social gatherings inside or outside the home, maximum occupancy or mask mandates.”

The sheriff’s office also “recommends that everyone continue exercising safe practices, including wearing masks.” But neither him nor his deputies would punish violators because that would be “inappropriate” since it is a minor offence.
