Capitol rioters wanted to “capture and assassinate” lawmakers, Prosecutors say.

Capitol rioters wanted to "capture and assassinate" lawmakers, Prosecutors say.

Donald Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol last Wednesday wanted to “capture and assassinate” elected officials, according to a new court filing.

The filing was part of the Justice Department’s case asking an Arizona court to keep ‘QAnon Shaman’ Jacob Chansley detained until his trial.

“Strong evidence, including Chansley’s own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States government,” lawyers for the DOJ wrote.

As evidence, the filing cites a threatening note allegedly left by Chansley on the Senate Chamber dais where Pence was standing moments earlier, stating “it’s only a matter of time, justice is coming.”

Prosecutors also said Chansley is a regular drug user and likely has mental health problems.

According to the filing, Chansley “demonstrates scattered and fanciful thoughts, and is unable to appreciate reality. He is the shaman of a dangerous extremist group, putting his beliefs into action by attempting to violently overthrow the United States government.”

“Chansley has spoken openly about his belief that he is an alien, a higher being, and he is here on Earth to ascend to another reality,” the filing added.

He is scheduled for a court hearing on Friday.
