Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) dropped out of the GOP presidential primary Wednesday, but not before he was caught on hot mic making disparaging comments about the two main candidates left in the race against Donald Trump.
Christie’s hot mic moment came while he was offstage before his event in Windham, New Hampshire, where he announced he was leaving the GOP primary.
“She’s gonna get smoked — you and I both know it,” Christie said, referring to Haley. “She’s not up to this.”
Christie also spoke about a call he had with DeSantis. According to Christie, DeSantis was “petrified.”
Haley has been gaining momentum among Republican voters following a series of strong debate performances.
However, Trump remains the clear frontrunner.
Christie announced he is leaving the GOP primary Wednesday, days before the Iowa caucuses.
“My goal has never been to be just a voice against the hate and division and the selfishness of what our party has become under Donald Trump,” Christie said.
“I’ve always said that if there came a point in time in this race where I couldn’t see a path to accomplishing that goal, that I would get out. And it’s clear to be tonight that there isn’t a path for me to win the nomination, which is why I’m suspending my campaign tonight for president of the United States,” he added.
