Former Donald Trump ally turn vocal critic Chris Christie said the Republican presidential nominee is showing signs of ‘significant’ mental decline on the campaign trail.
“He wasn’t as good in 2020 as he was in 2016,” Christie told New York Times columnist Frank Bruni. “I saw decline in his skills in ’20 from ’16, and you see significant declines still.
Christie, who helped Trump with debate prep for the 2016 and 2020 presidential debate, said the former president’s mental capabilities have only gotten worse since then.
“What masks it is that he is still physically pretty vibrant and energetic, unlike the president,” Christie said. “But if you listen to him and his ability to make a point, it’s not nearly as good now as it was in 2016, not nearly.”
Christie’s comments come as Trump’s indecipherable rants at his rallies meandering from topic to topic and with references to the “late great Hannibal Lecter” have raised concerns about his competence.
Mental health experts told The Independent that Trump,78, is showing signs of “cognitive decline” and appears to “have lost touch with reality.”
Vice President Kamala Harris, 59, released her medical records on Saturday from her physician Joshua Simmons which says that the Democratic presidential nominee is in “excellent health.”
“She possesses the physical and mental resilience required to successfully execute the duties of the presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” Simmons added.
The Trump campaign has signaled that they have no plans to release the 78-year-old ex-president’s medical records.
